Description

This was a lineart that I downloaded to practice my coloring. I took a lot of time on it to master the colors and I think it turned out well. I found a new purple shade for the skin tone and A new hair coloring style.

Well you asked for a critique, so here is one from a random DeviantART user. Just to let you know, none of this is to hurt your feelings but is used to help improve you as an artist.

First off, I would like to say that I do not like the double light source thing. This is a sunset picture and the light source (aka the Sun) is behind them. That being said, since the light source is behind them, then their outer edges would be the normal color while everything inside would be a shade darker... Perferably use a gray-red and set it to multiply or something to make the base color have a red shade. See this tutorial: alenas.deviantart.com/art/Basi…

Second, the shading is pretty good on the skin and the shorts, although the shorts look too saturated in color which is surprising in with how the orange the light source is. As well, their hair is alright, but you need to make thinner lines and work on the "the light source is just a line swiped on the hair". Hard to describe what I am trying to say... I'm thinking that you should add a few strands of "white" hair and set them to overlay to make the hair pop.

Third, the background looks nice, but the clouds are all dark and they are not reflecting the light source. That being said, the clouds on the right should reflect the light source on their left side and opposite for those on the left.

Water is a reflection of the sky, so that being said, it should have ripples and be the same shades as the sky, not just white thrown on top. Throwing just white on top and lowering the opacity makes it seem not like real water, but a weird mixture of glue and water... Actually the best example would be mixing salt/sugar into a glass of water without stirring; looks kinda funny huh?

Bushes need a bit of shading to them too. Don't make them paper flat! D:

FINALLY...

Vision: 3 - It is clear to the user and isn't too messy or distracting. I understand what you were trying to do.

Originality: 2 - Mostly only because you were using a base. But you changed up their base a bit by adding color and a scene. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>

Technique: 3 - Compared to some of your other works, the coloring is an improvement over the others.

Impact: 1 1/2 - Didn't really leave much of an impact other than: "Ooh. Sunset"

Overall, you improved a bit and I like this. :3
